SOMERVILLE, NJ - A marriage of the visual arts and performing arts will be consummated over the next four days, extending west to Flemington and east to New Brunswick, a kaleidoscope of sound, color, motion, and expression unrivaled at any other time of the year, with thousands of music and art lovers expected to visit and partake of the smorgasbord.
Joining forces are the Central New Jersey Jazz Festival Sept. 15-17, with performances in Flemington Friday night, New Brunswick on Saturday night, and concluding in Somerville from 1 to 6 p.m. on Sunday and the four-day Arts on Division Festival in Somerville beginning Thursday, Sept. 14.
AOD ‘17 kicks off at 6 p.m. Thursday with the “Gallery Walk,” a tour of Gallery on Main, 30 West Main St., featuring an eclectic mix of original art, prints, posters, antiques and collectibles; Gallery on Division, celebrating its grand opening at 15B Division St., and Three Hearts Home. Each gallery will host an opening reception with refreshments and live music.
Also, artist Jerome Gonzalez will create an interactive photo illustration on West Main Street while performers Day de Dada entertain throughout the evening.
AOD ’17 continues on Friday, Sept. 15 with guitarist Terrance Haupt performing on Division Street from 6-7:30 p.m.
Festivities on Division Street continue on Saturday, Sept. 16 with Art All Day from 11:30 a.m.-7 p.m., an Artisan Market on Division Street featuring the works of 18 artists; the Bob Lanza Blues Band preforming from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m.; Cube painting Session #1 featuring artists Elan Wonder, Mimi, Jenna Morello, and Brainpaste; a Drum Solo Competition from 1:30-3 p.m.; Cube Painting #2 featuring Leon Rainbow, Pest, El Gento, and Jerome Gonzalez; the Whitehouse Wind Symphony from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. and Mail Order Bride performing from 5-7 p.m.
Children’s activities, guitar workshops for kids, sing-a-longs and school art shows will be featured all day. A unique collection of videos created by Raritan Valley Community College students will be broadcast in storefronts throughout the evening.
AOD ’17 concludes on Sunday, Sept. 17 with the Central Jersey Jazz Festival on East Main Street adjacent to the Historic Somerset County Courthouse from 1-6 p.m. Artists will have drawings, paintings, jewelry, ceramics, photographs, and clothing available for purchase.
Arts On Division is dedicated to building community in Somerville and the region through the arts and arts education by promoting the advancement, development, and support of the visual, musical, physical, and literary arts.

Friday's All-Star Lineup in Flemington includes jazz musicians Jeff "Tain" Watts, Lezlie Harrison and Willie Martinez. The Friday event is produced and hosted by Flemington Community Partnership and Sheila E. Anderson, author and on-air personality of WBGO Jazz 88.3 FM.
Saturday's All-Star Lineup in New Brunswick features the Jimmy Cobb Trio plus Matt Chertkoff; Lucien Barbarin's NOLA Sextet and Cocomama. Saturday’s event is produced & hosted by The New Brunswick Jazz Project.
Sunday's All-Star Lineup in Somerville includes Davell Crawford, Claire Daly and Marion Cowings.
