READINGTON, NJ – A 15-year-old boy was arrested early this morning after police here chased a vehicle that police said refused to stop.

Readington police report that while on routine patrol around 12:20 a.m., officers discover three vehicles driving slowly along Dreahook Road. When an officer tried to stop them, “the three vehicles accelerated and attempted to flee,” police said.

Sgt. Steve Rindock then began a pursuit, having reason to believe he discovered a crime in progress.

The chase ended on Stanton Road in Clinton Township when one of the vehicles crashed and the driver was taken into custody. The other suspects fled the area.

A follow up investigation revealed that the suspects arrived in Readington in a vehicle that had been stolen in Newark. They then took two vehicles from a home on Dreahook Road, police said. One vehicle was stolen from the driveway and the second vehicle was taken from the resident's garage, according to police. To get into the garage, the suspects used a garage door opener from the unlocked car in the driveway.

The boy, who is from Newark, was charged with eluding, burglary, theft and receiving stolen property. He was turned over to the Hunterdon County Sheriff’s Department for transport to a Juvenile Detention Center.
