NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ — With Memorial Day Weekend behind us, summer has unofficially begun. And that means it’s time for the city’s annual Hungarian Festival—plus a lot more.

Welcome to the Hub City, Rutgers University summer session students. Hidden Grounds Coffee offers half-price cold brew until 6 p.m. at its two Easton Avenue locations. Customers must present their student ID to get the deal.

Rutgers Cinema screens some of the summer’s hottest releases this evening. “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales” is set for 7 p.m.; “Baywatch” for 7:30 p.m.; and “Alien: Convenant” for 8 p.m.

Psychedelics and comedy—how does that sound for a Wednesday night? Shane Mauss, a comedian who has appeared on any number of national TV shows and podcasts, plays the Stress Factory at 7:30 p.m. His show focuses on psychedelics and is “part stand-up, part storytelling and part Ted Talk.” Tickets cost $22.

Thursday, June 1

Artists Mentoring Against Racism, Drugs and Violence presents its teen dating violence prevention ambassadors’ final art show from 4-7 p.m. at 112 Paterson St. For more information, click here.

What will Middlesex County’s policy on dealing with federal immigration authorities look like? The answer could come at 7 p.m., when the Board of Chosen Freeholders meets at 75 Bayard St. Activists plan to flood the meeting, as they have several times over the past few months, to urge officials to protect undocumented immigrants.

Friday, June 2

Spring means fresh produce. Rutgers Gardens Farmers Market is scheduled for 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Rutgers Gardens, 112 Ryders Ln. More than 20 vendors will be on hand.

Saturday, June 3

It’s that time once again. The 42nd annual Hungarian Festival comes to the city from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Somerset Street. The ethnic event includes plenty of authentic food, dancing, music and more. Vendors and activities for kids will also be available.

The Civic League of Greater New Brunswick holds a neighborhood health fair from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Pine Street Recreation Park. Free services include vision, HIV testing, nutrition counseling, smoking cessation information and more.

Here’s your chance to share a beer with an author. Above Art Studios hosts a book-signing party for Eloh Kush’s new publication, “A Few Dayz In The County Maze,” from 2-6 p.m. at 55 Morris St. All ages are welcome. This is a BYOB event.

Grab some popcorn. The New Jersey International Film Festival’s summer 2017 screenings begin at 5 p.m. and on Saturday and Sunday evenings through June 11. More than 20 films will show during the festival.

Sunday, June 4

Opening ceremonies for Eric LeGrand’s “A Walk to Believe 5K” are scheduled for 10 a.m. at High Point Solutions Stadium. The walk and run begins at 10:30 a.m., with participants raising money and awareness for the six million people living with spinal cord injuries.

Explore nature and meet new friends. NJspots hosts an Instagram meet-up at 1 p.m. at Rutgers Gardens, 112 Ryders Ln. The group highlights New Jersey’s “special places” via photo, and this is its third get-together.

Comedian and longtime late-night TV host Jay Leno comes to the State Theatre at 7:30 p.m. Tickets run from $55 to $125.

Somerville Merchants Endorse Plan to Reduce Parking Lot Fees

SOMERVILLE, NJ – The Borough’s controversial parking fees are set to undergo another revision, with hourly parking reduced from 75 to 50 cents in municipal lots 1,2,4 and 6, according to a merchant-driven plan endorsed by Mayor Ellen Brain.

SOMERVILLE, NJ - Jerome Luiz Gonzalez, a devoted father, artist, author and the heart and soul of the burgeoning downtown arts community, died early Saturday morning, Feb. 17 pursuing another one of his passions, competing in an endurance race in North Carolina.
