SOMERVILLE, NJ - Saturday was Day One of the annual Weekend of Art and Music presented by the non-profit organization Arts on Division, with artists of all ages working with brushes, chalk, markers and spray cans to create a variety of artwork on the Division Street pedestrian mall.

“Art All Day” began at noon and lasted through 6 p.m. with The Artisan Market selling a variety of artwork by local artists including Mike Beckwith, Joel Burton, Mackenzie Farrell, James Negri, Keiko Inouye, Jen Kitchen, Natia Malazonia, Robbin McGeady, Victoria Ramirez, Louise Reeves, James Schreck and Matt Sottile.
 
There was live music, children’s art activities, chalk artists, the Day de DaDa Performing Collective, and the Frontline Arts paper making demo.

Artists also worked on completing the Jerome Gonzalez memorial mural, a 90-foot expanse of creative art and expressions on the brick facade of a building along a walkway off Main Street that leads to Parking Lot 6. Gonzalez, who died in February, 2018 participating in an endurance run, was considered by most to be the heart and sou of the arts community in Somerville.
 
On Sunday, Sept. 15, The Central Jersey JazzFest celebrates its 10th anniversary with live performances from noon-6 p.m. on East Main Street between Bridge and Grove Streets.

 
Performers include  Nat Adderly, Jr., Brianna Thomas, and Javon Jackson.  Somerville restaurants will provide dining options. The JazzFest Art Market will feature jewelry, paintings, ceramics, bags, prints, photographs, drawings and a variety of small art items. 
 
Participating artists include Christine Anderson, Mary Andrew, Susan Antin, Josh Denne,  Dilly Dally Designs, Nick Finelle, Leslie Floyd, Abigail Frisch, Lindsey Knipe, Sien Lewis, Mary Anne McCabe, Deirdre Rosinski, Victoria Ramirez, Reyna Steinberg and Bob Yurochko.
