FRANKLIN PARK, NJ – Law enforcement officials are seeking the community's help identifying the suspects in connection with a homicide that occurred in Franklin Township last month. A reward is being offered for information leading up to an arrest.
On Thursday, Somerset County Prosecutor Michael H. Robertson and Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Chief of County Detectives John W. Fodor along with Franklin Township Public Safety Director Quovella M. Spruill released video footage in the hopes of tracking down the suspect(s) responsible for the July 7, 2020 shooting and subsequent death of Raphael Edwards.
According to Prosecutor Robertson, at approximately 11:52 p.m. on the aforementioned date, Franklin Township Police responded to 911 calls reporting shots fired in the area of Village Drive. Responding officers located a Edwards, 27, suffering from a gunshot wound. He was transported to an area trauma center where he was pronounced dead.
Edwards' death has been ruled a homicide by the New Jersey Northern Regional Medical Examiner’s Office and law enforcement allege that the shooting was an isolated incident and are attempting to establish a motive.
The investigation is being conducted by detectives from the Franklin Township Police Department, the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit, and the Crime Scene Investigations Unit who, on Aug. 13, release the surveillance video depicting two persons of interest and a vehicle of interest and are seeking any information which may lead to the identities of the persons or vehicle depicted in the videos.
According to law enforcement, one person of interest appears to have a distinct walk while the vehicle appears to be a dark or gray colored sedan that was last seen departing Village Drive and proceeding left onto northbound Route 27.
Crime Stoppers of Somerset County, Inc. is offering a reward of up to $2,500 for information leading to the identification and arrest of the individual(s) responsible for the shooting death of Raphael Edwards.
