EDISON, NJ - WHO: Congressman Frank Pallone, Jr., Senator Cory Booker, Jeff Tittel, NJ Sierra Club, Senator Patrick Diegnan, Jr., Representatives from the American Federation of Government Employees and other environmental groups stand in solidarity against Trump’s environmental agenda on Monday.
WHAT: On Monday April 3rd, outside of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) lab, U.S. Senator Cory Booker, Congressman Frank Pallone (NJ-06), state and local elected officials, New Jersey Sierra Club and local environmental groups will stand in solidarity against President Trump’s anti-environmental agenda and abandonment of the fight against climate change. The event will focus on the Trump administration’s budget cuts and weakening of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), withdrawal from initiatives to combat climate change including the Clean Power Plan, and failure to support clean energy programs that will create jobs in New Jersey and throughout the country.
“The EPA budget is a disaster to the environment, especially in New Jersey. This is part of President Trump’s war on the environment. Not only is Trump cutting the budget, he is getting rid of environmental protections. By getting rid of 1/3 of its staff and cutting the budget, it is a one-two punch to eliminate the EPA. His cuts will mean that there will not enough personnel to make sure our water is safe to drink, our land is clean, our air is breathable, and our 118 Superfund Sites are cleaned-up. By cutting enforcement, Trump will create a polluters holiday because there will be no one to sure to make sure they aren’t violating the law. This is an outrageous attempt to protect corporate polluters instead of our health and climate,”said Jeff Tittel, Director of the New Jersey Sierra Club. “We are joining together to save the EPA and stand up for clean air, clean water, toxic sites cleaned-up, and action on climate change. We fought 45 years ago for Congress to create the EPA and now we will fight all over again to stop the President from dismantling it.”
