SOMERVILLE, NJ – State Assemblyman and Republican candidate for Governor Jack Ciattarelli released the following statement Tuesday in reaction to Lt. Governor Kim Guadagno’s gubernatorial candidacy:

“With the Lt. Governor now officially a declared gubernatorial candidate, it is time for an honest and fair discussion.

"If New Jersey Republicans nominate the second-in-command to a Governor marked by failed policies, scandal, and record low approval ratings, what message are we sending to the citizens of our state?  The loyal-to-a-fault Lt. Governor is exactly who Phil Murphy and the Democrats want to run against.

"The Lt. Governor’s recent attempts to run away from the Governor after seven years of standing silently by his side in blind obedience are simply not credible. Republicans need a new message and a new messenger.

"We need to move away from failed policies that have saddled us with the worst economic growth and highest property taxes in the country, blatantly unfair school funding, and a style of politics known more for closing bridges than building them.

"As a gubernatorial candidate, I’m doing exactly what citizens desperately want and deserve.  I’m providing a plan.  A bold, comprehensive and dynamic plan that solves our property tax crisis, creates economic opportunity and good-paying jobs, and sets the stage for long-term prosperity and security for all residents.  My plan revitalizes and restores New Jersey as a great place to live, work and retire.  It’s a plan worthy of bi-partisan support. "Now is not the time for a sentimental vote or misguided duty to nominate the next person in line.  It is time for a new direction for the Republican Party and New Jersey.  That is something the Lt. Governor is incapable of providing.”
