Coalition Announced to Strengthen the Voice of Business

BRIDGEWATER, NJ – The Somerset County Business Partnership (SCBP) has entered into a collaboration with Somerset County Employers Legislative Committee (ELC) and Somerset County Governing Officials Association (SCGOA) to provide an even stronger voice for the Somerset County business community. The goal of the alliance is to more effectively represent and advocate for the business community by working together on a strategically planned speaker program for 2017.

“By bringing together the strength of the three organizations we expect to be able to attract the highest level of New Jersey government leaders to inform us of activities in Trenton and subsequently take our concerns to the state,” commented Carol Bianchi, co-chair of the ELC.

The statewide ELCs were established by NJ Business and Industry Association in 1959 as independent, local organizations representing each county. ELCs meet monthly with legislators, cabinet members, and local officials to discuss important issues pertinent to business.

SCGOA serves as a forum for exchange of ideas among elected, newly elected, and appointed municipal officials, meeting monthly and offering programs that inform and educate members about local, county, and state issues.

“We are putting together a line up of key players in government and business,” added Ed Zimmerman, Executive Director of Somerset County Governing Officials. “Somerset County has a strong reputation as an advocate for business that is unmatched in New Jersey. This new program will provide our businesses even greater knowledge and influence.”

An invitation is being extended to each of the major candidates for governor who will hopefully agree to appear before this large and influential group of Somerset County business and government leaders.

The next gathering in the series is scheduled for Friday, January 27, 2017 at 11:30 A.M. at Verve Bistro, Bar, & Lounge, 18 East Main Street in Somerville. Featured presenters are Senator Kip Bateman (R-16) and Assemblyman John DiMaio (R-23).DiMaio (R-23).
