SOMERSET, NJ - The public is invited to attend this year's Week of the People back to school event at Naaman Williams Park, Aug. 24 from 2 pm to 7 pm.
The free family-friendly is hosted by Franklin Township in partnership with The Week of the People Inc. and the Somerset Community Action Program.
Local community partners will provide educational information and resources to parents and students.
"The event theme is 'Community in Unity' to reinforce collaboration, youth engagement and positive change by bringing local families together before the start of a new school year," a news release reads. "In addition to informative presentations, the day will include entertainment by township youth and other talented artists presented by Ms. Angela 'Coach' James."
The 501c3 non-profit, Somerset Community Action Program (SCAP), which created the original concept of the Week of the People, Inc (WOPI), is one of several organizations and businesses partnering for the good of the community.
SCAP and the WOPI Board of Trustees would like to thank the following local/county agencies and businesses for their support, donations and sponsorship: the Hamilton Street Business District; Investors Bank; Frank’s Building Supplies; Township Pharmacy; Franklin Township Human Relations Commission; Franklin Township Department of Parks & Recreation; Franklin Township Chamber of Commerce; ProCure Proton Therapy; Hub City Music Management; Divas & Gents; Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital; Saint Peter’s Healthcare System and Franklin Youth Initiative (FYI).
Portions of the event will be taped live to be aired on the popular cable television show called, “The Mylo P.I. Show,” airing on Comcast, channel 280 and Cablevision, channel 14.
