SOMERVILLE, N.J. –Somerset County Prosecutor Michael H. Robertson announced that Somerset County Crime Stoppers, Inc. has increased their reward to up to $1,000 for information leading to arrests of  Jaki Hooks-Lewis, age 20, and his father Jason Lewis, age 43, who have been charged in a January 3rd shooting that occurred in Franklin Township.

Prosecutor Robertson stated that on January 3, 2017, at approximately 7:44 p.m., multiple 9-1-1 calls were received by the Franklin Township Police Department, reporting gunshots in the area of Dewald Avenue, in the Somerset section of Franklin Township. Responding officers located a 31 year old male outside a Dewald Avenue residence, suffering from a non-life threatening gunshot wound to his leg. Officers provided medical aid to the victim, who was then transported to a local trauma center for emergency treatment.

Prosecutor Robertson stated that detectives have identified the shooter as Jaki N. Hooks-Lewis, age 20, of Dewald Avenue.  Defendant Hooks-Lewis was charged with 2nd Degree, Aggravated Assault. His father, Jason Lewis, age 43, also of Dewald Avenue, was charged with 3rd Degree, Hindering Apprehension.

The investigation has revealed that defendant Jason Lewis assisted his son in fleeing from the area following the shooting.  Detectives are searching for both defendants, and urge them to surrender to authorities.  Detectives caution the public from approaching either defendant as defendant Jaki Hooks-Lewis should be considered armed and dangerous.
