BASKING RIDGE, NJ - The Somerset County Park Commission Environmental Education Center at 190 Lord Stirling Road in Basking Ridge has scheduled the following Naturalist-led programs to help children and adults enjoy the wonders of nature in Somerset County. The Environmental Education Center provides many entertaining and educational programs for children and adults year around.

Xtreme Adventure: Rock Climb

Wednesday, August 1 from 8:30 A.M. to 6:00 P.M.

Adventurers ages 13 to 17 will hit the road on a trip to Shawangunks in the Catskill Mountain Range to meet with a licensed climbing guide for instruction on climbing, belaying, and repelling.

Swallowtail Fields – NEW PROGRAM!

            Friday, August 3 from 9:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M.

            Adults will join a Naturalist on a trip to the fields of Wild Bergamont

                        seeking out the swallowtail butterflies and and other summer


            Fee is $40 per adult and $30 per senior.

“The Great Swamp Experience,” on the lower level at the EEC, features interactive displays, vignettes, taxidermy, and archeological artifacts highlighting the history and ecology of the Great Swamp. The exhibit is open 7 days a week from 9:00 A.M. to 4:30 P.M. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Admission Is free. Please note that dog walking is not permitted on the trails at the Environmental Education Center.
