BRIDGEWATER, NJ - A corrosive liquid was released onto the road after a tractor overturned at Route 28 and Finderne Avenue early Wednesday, according to Bridgewater Township Police.

According to the report, a 1999 Freightliner tractor, owned by Solid Logistics LLC Newark NJ, was traveling west on Route 28 and attempted to make a left turn onto Finderne Avenue. The tractor, police said, struck a traffic light pole on the west side of Finderne Avenue and rolled onto its passenger side.

The trailer it was pulling, the release said, contained a corrosive liquid, which was released onto the roadway.

The driver of the vehicle was not injured in the accident.

Throughout the day, Somerset County Haz-Mat, along with state and local agencies, have been actively cleaning the scene. All traffic from Finderne Avenue, Route 28 and the surrounding area will be affected throughout Wednesday evening.

Much of the area was on a shelter in place order by police throughout the day, but, by 3 p.m., only residents within a one-block radius of Finderne Avenue and Route 28 needed to shelter in place.

Bridgewater Township Police will be updating the Facebook page with more details as cleanup continues. Check back with The BReeze for continued updates.
