FRANKLIN PARK, NJ - The topic of immigration has been spotlighted in the news of late, and Franklin Park School has done an exceptional job educating and raising the awareness of its students on the subject.
"We have an amazing fourth-grade teaching team at FPS who work extremely hard to provide our students with memorable learning experiences so that they can take ownership of their work and be proud of their accomplishments," FPS Vice Principal Purvi Shah said. "From the trip to Ellis Island to the interviews of immigrants and finally the presentations today, our students were fully immersed in the topic. This was clearly apparent in the wonderful immigration presentations today!"
Earlier in the year FPS students visited, Ellis Island for a class trip, and recently were tasked to interview an immigrant from the community to learn more about their culture.
Students also created tri-fold poster presentations based on their interviews, and some of them included artifacts from the country of origin of their interviewees.
The lesson on immigration concluded with the students presenting for their fellow classmates, parents and school officials.
All of the work and research was done by the students with some guidance from their teachers.
