FRANKLIN TOWNSHIP, NJ - The township's West African community held its first parade and festival May 20.

The Hamilton Street Business District and West African Community Foundation sponsored the event. 

Organizers gathered on a stormy day, in the parking lot of St. Peter and Paul church parking lot.

State and local officials joined in on the ceremonies. Assemblyman Joe Danielsen and Mayor Phillip Kramer lead the parade as grand marshall and marshall respectively. 

Deputy Mayor Carl R.A. Wright, Councilwoman At-Large Kimberley Francois, Councilman At-Large Rajiv Prasad, and Councilmen, Charles Onyejiaka, James Vassanella, Theodore Chase, also attended the parade. 

Parade marchers started from St. Peter and Paul and ended at Naaman Williams Park for a day-long festival.
