FRANKLIN TOWNSHIP, NJ - Oct. 4 is "National Coffee With a Cop Day" an event created in 2011 by members of the Hawthorne Police Department.
The event is designed to provide cops and the community a chance to meet in a casual setting to communicate ideas, concerns, and to develop relationships.
"Community policing has long been considered a framework for establishing trust between the community and the police," according to the coffee with a cop website. "However, over time the character and composition of our nation’s communities have changed due to shifting demographics, more commuters, and the introduction of different communication methods such as websites and social media."
Franklin will be unique to other towns because it will have multiple active locations to ensure optimum engagement with the public.
Dunkin Donuts at 920 Hamilton Street and Starbucks at 120 Cedar Grove Lane will be hosting the event from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m.
Hamilton Street BBQ at 841 Hamilton Street and Kettleman's Bagels at 456 Elizabeth Avenue will be hosting the event from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m.
Moe's Southwest Grill at 120 Cedar Grove Lane and Confectionately Yours at 3391 Route 27 will be hosting the event from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
"The key to Coffee with a Cop’s growing success is that it opens the door for interactions outside of the crisis situations that typically bring law enforcement officers and community members together," according to the coffee with a cop website.
