SOMERSET, NJ - Twelve Franklin High School seniors were awarded $20,000 by the Franklin Township Dr. Martin Luther King Community Foundation at the FHS Annual Senior Awards, Monday night.
The Franklin Township Dr. Martin Luther King Community Foundation (FTMLKCF) has raised over $175,000 and awarded 167 FHS students with scholarships, since 1998.
“In giving this scholarship, we want the students to feel that their Franklin community supports them, their education and their future plans and to remember Dr. King’s Dream," FTMLKCF President Eva Nagy said.
Adedayo Adebo, Ihinosen Akhagba, Nafisatu Dawud, Jada Edwards, Anar Murji, Dipali Patel, Shasa Revell, Giovanni Stewart, Genesis Taylor, Cassandra Trovato, Melissa Tu, and Clarissa Vickerie, were this year's scholarship winners.
FTMLKCF Officers Meher Rafiq, Stg. Sean Hebbon, Gary Rosenthal, Dr. Alex Kharazi and Trustee Yong Kim awarded the students the scholarships.
The scholarship money was raised earlier this year during Franklin Township's 20th Anniversary MLK Community Breakfast.
This Tuesday the FTMLKCF received a commendation on behalf of the mayor and township council.
Kharazi and Dr. Parviz Hamedani represented Masjid-e-Ali in its partnership with the FTMLKCF and awarded $3,000 this year towards the scholarship fund.
The Mission of the Franklin Township Dr. Martin Luther King Community Foundation is to fulfill Dr. Martin Luther King’s Dream of unity among the races through promotion of racial harmony, equality and justice for all, opportunity for building strong relations among all people, educational opportunities and services, scholarships for the youth of Franklin Township and unity celebrations for our entire community.
