FRANKLIN TOWNSHIP, NJ - An 81-year-old woman identified as Ernestine Register of Franklin Park was struck on Ten Mile Run Boulevard in the Franklin Park section of the Township, according to a special news release.
On Sunday, May 28, the Franklin Township Police Department received multiple 9-1-1 calls reporting a pedestrian was struck, according to release.
Upon arrival, officers found Register unconscious and not breathing in the roadway, according to law officials.
"Officers began to render aid to Ms. Register until EMS personnel from Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital and Kendall Park First Aid Squad arrived on the scene," the release stated. "She was transported to an area hospital where she was pronounced dead as a result of injuries sustained in the crash."
Members of the Franklin Township Police Department’s Traffic Safety Bureau and The Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Team responded to the scene to investigate the crash, according to the release.
The initial investigation revealed a 2007 Volvo S40 that was operated by a 19-year-old Franklin Park resident, turned onto Ten Mile Run Boulevard from Timberhill Drive and then struck Register who was crossing the roadway, according to officials.
The contributing circumstances surrounding the crash are currently under investigation.
