SOMERSET, NJ - Franklin High School hosted this year's Group 4 Track and Field Championship on Friday and Saturday.
More than 35 schools located all across New Jersey competed through both unified and regular races.
FHS senior, Sydney Wade, sang the national anthem to kick off the event, Wade described her experience as “similar to singing in baseball fields when I was younger.”
Races were delayed Saturday due to stormy weather at approximately 2 pm. FHS staff requested that everyone remain in the gym and events lobby until it was safe to resume the meet.
During the event, FHS's students assisted referees by adjusting downed hurdles, leveling sand, and bringing water to track and field participants.
Mario Heslop, Franklin's star sprinter claimed individual state titles in the 100-, 200- and 400-meter sprints.
Local vendors such as Frutta Bowls attended the event. The Kona Ice Food Truck sold snow cones to attendees.
