SOMERSET, NJ - Early last month on June 8, a 30 year Franklin resident was hit by a car while he was on his way to the St. Sharbel Church to attend the Lebanese Festival.

Police are a little closer to finding out who hit Gilberto Cordero, 71 and took off from the scene.

"Our investigation has led us to believe the suspect vehicle to be a black 2007-2014 Mitsubishi Lancer," FTPD Lt. Phil Rizzo told TAPinto.

Rizzo says the investigation is ongoing. Cordero's son Gerry Valentin is pleading with the public to help find who hit his father.

"If you have any information or leads or saw this accident or know of a car that fits the police description or saw a car with this type of damage, please put yourselves in our shoes and contact the police," Valentin told TAPinto.

He says the family is doing their best to keep their father comfortable through his "long road to recovery." Valentin says his father has a metal rod in his leg and a lot of cuts and bruises that need to heal up.

"I just plead with anyone that has any information regarding who may have done this to my father, to please step forward so we can have justice for him," Cordero told TAPinto. "He’s a good man that’s been a Franklin resident for nearly 30 years. He’s a great neighbor who goes above and beyond for people without anything to gain."

According to Cordero, his father is suffering from a broken leg, multiple fractures in his spine, and internal bleeding in his stomach as a result of the accident.

He also has two contusions on both arms and a laceration on his left forearm and bruising on his chin, according to Cordero.
