FRANKLIN TOWNSHIP, NJ - The stout defense of the Franklin Lady Warriors stymied the Westfield Blue Devils, leading to a 67-46 win in the semifinal round of the NJSIAA North Jersey, Section 2, Group 4 tournament game Friday night at Franklin High School.
Diamond Miller, of Franklin, led all scorers with 23 points, including five 3-pointers, four blocked shots, and an assist. Lady Warriors Monique Davis-Campbell dropped 14 points, and Camille Gray, Kennedy Schenck, and Keona Schenck each scored eight points. Keona Schenck led the team with four assists and Tiana Jackson and Gray helped propel the offense with three assist each of their own.
The second-seeded Franklin Lady Warriors will take on fifth-seeded Bridgewater-Raritan at home on Monday at 6 p.m. Franklin had a 3-0 record against Bridgewater-Raritan in the regular season.
Gray, Davis and Keona Schenck had two steals, and Kiersten McCloud chipped in one steal of her own to help power the tight defense of the Lady Warriors.
The second quarter is where the game was won, as the Lady Warriors held Westfield to a single-digit point total.
One of the highlights of the quarter was when Miller hit a deep 3-point shot to power an 11-0 run with three minutes left in the second quarter. The Lady Warriors dominated the quarter outscoring the Blue Devils 21-6.
Shannon Devitt led the Blue Devils and finished with the second highest point total, 16 points, Molly Ryan added 15 points and Grace Elliot scored eight.
