SOMERSET, NJ - In honor of Veteran's Day, the Franklin Township Public Library in Somerset is proud to host Vietnam war veteran Carl Williams Burns’ presentation on Wednesday, November 8 from 7:00 pm – 8:30 pm.
Via slides and stories, Burns will share some of his experiences as an US Army officer and Huey pilot in the early days of America's involvement in Vietnam. He was a helicopter pilot with the 25th Infantry Division 3/4 Cavalry, nicknamed the famed Centaurs. Burns flew combat and reconnaissance missions in Vietnam earning a Purple Heart, 16 Air Medals, and the rank of Captain.
Burns will also discuss his struggle to deal with the war's personal and public legacies through the writing of his book, Centaurs in Vietnam: Untold Stories of The First Year (2008) and his volunteer efforts.
