SOMERSET, NJ - The superintendent of Franklin Township's public school district, Dr. John Ravally will receive a $23,057.25 merit bonus after reaching several goals over the past academic year.

The merit bonus was approved last week, July 19 during the board of education's special meeting. The payout comes on top of his base salary of $196,584 which was increased from $177,500 in May after his original contract was extendedbringing total compensation to $219,641.25.

Three of the five goals were quantitative and two were qualitative, and Ravally hit or exceeded three out of the five goals.

Ravally earned $4,135.75 (2.33 percent of compensation) for reaching the goal of 55 percent of students in grades 5 and 7 demonstrating growth in English language arts as measured by iReady beginning of the year diagnostic test compared to the end of the year test. The target of 60 percent was missed. 

Here are scores provided by the superintendent's merit goal report below:

  • Total number of Grade 5 & 7 valid ELA iReady test scores = 604 
  • Total number across the two grade levels that grew performance by a grade level or more = 332 students 
  • Percentage of students who demonstrated that they met the target of one or more years of growth = 55%

He earned $4,135.75 (2.33 percent of compensation) for reaching the goal of 56 percent of students in grades 5 and 7 demonstrating growth in mathematics as measured by iReady beginning of the year diagnostic test compared to the end of the year test. The target of 60 percent was missed.

  • Percentage of students who demonstrated that they met the target of one or more years of growth = 56% 

Ravally exceeded target pass rate of 80 percent of grade 9 students enrolled in Algebra I, that total pass rate was 85 percent, and earned Ravally a bonus of $5,910.57 or 3.33 percent of compensation. 

Ravally earned $4,437.50, for meeting and exceeding the goal of introducing and having the adoption of the districts rezoning plan for the 2018-19 school year. He worked with the transportation department, district transition committee, the board of education and other key people in the district to develop the plan. Final approval of the plan is expected to be made during the 2017-2018 school year.   

Finally, the school board awarded Ravally $4,437.50 for working with the board of education, and other relevant school administrators to "develop a pilot, one-to-one technology program in Grade 5 that will improve Grade 5 student access to technology and further engage students in the use of technology in supporting learning through the effective use of Google Apps for Education."
