SOMERSET, NJ - The council will have its second meeting of the year Tuesday at 7 pm at the municipal building, and the selection and appointment of a new council person in on the agenda. 

The new person will replace newly elected Somerset County Freeholder Shanel Robinson, who recently vacated her council at-large position. 

The 2019 Hamilton Street Special Improvement District Budget will be introduced during Tuesday's meeting. A hearing on the nearly $60,000 budget will be held during the Feb. 26 council meeting. During the "hearing taxpayers and all persons having an interest therein shall be given an opportunity to present objections."

A payment of $605,000 form the Capital Fund Balance and Capital Improvement Fund will be appropriated to purchase a lot located at 150 Shevechenko Avenue. The funds will also be used to pay for the design and construction of a parking lot.

The lot will be used for the heavily anticipated $13,000,000 youth center, slated to open in December 2020.

An ordinance amending the township's current code on the use of digital signs will be introduced. If passed the digital signs will "only be permitted for schools, firehouses, First Aid squads, public libraries and federal, state, county and local governments.
