SOMERSET, NJ - This Saturday the SGS Players Alumni Association will present its 3rd annual Alumni Cabaret at Sampson G. Smith.
The cabaret is to raise money for the Kevin J. Maskall Scholarship for High School seniors that have been involved with the district's fine arts program.
Maskall died in a tragic car accident in 2014.
"After Kevin passed away in a tragic car accident we wanted to honor him as well as his family," SGS Teacher and cabaret Director Theresa Seggio said.
Students, PTO members, and parents from the past and present donate their time and talent every year to the program.
"His dad has been our stage manager since the first show Kevin had the lead in (Annie) 13 years ago," Seggio said. "Kevin even shaved his head for the role. I always called him my method actor! He had an amazing smile... Kevin came back to help and was assistant stage manager the year before he passed, and his younger brother Ryan, who was also an SGS Player, took over assistant stage managing with his dad after Kevin passed."
If you can't make it out to the show, you can still donate to the alumni association and all proceeds go to fund college scholarships for qualifying FHS seniors.
So far four scholarships have been given out and this year the association expects to give out four more.
Checks can be made out to SGS Players Alumni Association and mailed to Alumni Association c/o SGS PTSO 1649 Amwell Road, Somerset NJ 08873.
