Franklin Township: Somerset Man Shot Dead in Trenton

TRENTON, NJ - A Somerset man and registered sex offender was shot dead in his car on a Trenton street Friday night, according to officials. 

"Jerome J. Thomas, 21, of Somerset, was shot several times at approximately 7:50 p.m. (Friday night) while seated in his vehicle near 682 Southard Street," Mercer County Assistant Prosecutor, Doris Galuchie said. 

Thomas, whose last known address was in the Somerset section, of Franklin Township, was registered as a sex offender from a 2013 conviction for sexual assault.

According to the New Jersey Sex Offender Registry (NJSOR), Thomas' victims were girls, ages, 13, 15, and 17.

Thomas was convicted in Somerset County, August 2013, for sexual assault and penetration, and he was 17 at the time, according to the NJSOR.

The prosecutor's office did not have any additional details of the shooting as this is an ongoing investigation.
