SOMERSET, NJ - Two local Amateur Athletic Union teams playing for Team Miller traveled to Indianapolis this weekend and came back champions, according to team organizers.
Both teams feature players from here and neighboring towns. This year, the 8th and 10th-grade teams won its division at the PTN Boys UA Premier Grassroots National Championship tournament, with a 5-0 and 4-1 record, respectively, according to organizers.
"Franklin is producing champions on and off the court," local resident Jim Hayes said in a social media post. "Congratulations to Team Miller Lighting on their accomplishments this weekend!"
The Amateur Athletic Union is one of the largest, non-profit, volunteer, multi-sport event organizations in the world, the AAU is dedicated exclusively to the promotion and development of amateur sports and physical fitness programs, according to its website. The AAU has 700,000 members and 150,000 volunteers across 35 sports programs and 55 U.S. districts, according to its website.
The PTN UA Premier Grassroots organization is made up of a national network of event operators and club directors who are focused on development, scholarship and community, according to its website.
