FRANKLIN TOWNSHIP, NJ - Tamar Reaves, aka “T-Mac,” age 18, of Park Street, in the Somerset section of Franklin Township, was arrested and charged with first-degree murder, second-degree possession of a handgun without a permit, and second-degree unlawful, possession of a handgun, according to officials.

"On Wednesday, Aug. 9, at approximately 7:54 a.m., multiple 9-1-1 calls were received by the Franklin Township Police Department, reporting a female gunshot victim on Battle Place," Somerset County Prosecutor Michael H. Robertson said in a statement. "Responding Officers located a female victim, age 18, laying on the pavement."

Police say, they arrived on the scene and identified the woman shot as Chamari Webb suffering from a life threating gunshot wound. Responding officers and emergency medical personnel provided treatment to Webb, who was transported to a local trauma center, according to officials.

Webb was pronounced dead at 8:29 a.m, according to officials.

"The investigation involved numerous witness interviews and a canvass of the neighborhood," Robertson said in a statement. "With the assistance of the New Brunswick police department, investigators were able to identify the suspect as defendant Reaves."

According to officials, Webb and Reaves encountered each other at a local area deli located on Millstone Road. Webb walked back to her Battle Place residence and Reaves shot her, police say.

Detectives are investigating the motive for the shooting, according to officials. Officials say, there was a history between Webb and Reaves, and Webb was the intended target of the shooting.

"Immediately following the shooting, the defendant, fled on foot to a residence in New Brunswick; however, he was later observed near his own residence at approximately 2:35 p.m. where he was approached and detained for questioning," Robertson said in a statement. "Investigators subsequently obtained Superior Court search warrants, which were executed at the defendant’s Somerset residence and at the residence he entered in New Brunswick."

Reaves is being held in the Somerset County Jail pending a bail detention hearing, according to officials.

An autopsy conducted by the New Jersey Regional Medical Examiner’s Office, concluded Webb's manner of death to be a gunshot wound to the neck, classified as a homicide, according to officials.

"The quick, successful apprehension of defendant Reaves was a direct result of multiple law enforcement agencies in Somerset and Middlesex counties working together to identify, locate, and apprehend an individual who brazenly committed this senseless act of violence in broad daylight in a residential neighborhood," Robertson said.

Prosecutor Robertson, Chief Fodor and Chief Roberts request anyone with information regarding this incident to contact the Somerset County Prosecutors Office Major Crimes Unit at (908) 231-7100, the Franklin Township Police Department (732) 873-5533 or the Somerset County Crime Stoppers’ Tip Line at 1-888-577-TIPS (8477) or online at www.888577tips.org or www.scpo.net and click on either “Crime Stoppers” or “TIPS HOTLINE”.
