FRANKLIN PARK, NJ - The 17-year-old Franklin Park resident who was hit by a car Saturday afternoon succumbed to his injuries and passed away on Tuesday, according to FTPD Lt. Phil Rizzo.

A 17-year-old male from Franklin Park was hit by a car Saturday afternoon while riding his bike on Bennington Parkway in the area of Central Avenue, according to police.

Police responded to a 9-1-1 call made at 2:35 pm on Sept. 22, and discovered the teen suffering from serious injuries. 

"The initial investigation revealed that a 2018 Nissan Rouge was traveling west on Bennington Parkway when it collided with the bicyclist at the intersection of Central Avenue," FTPD Lt. Phil Rizzo said in a statement.

The vehicle was driven by a 33 year old North Brunswick resident according to police.

Police, the teen was transported to an area local trauma center with "serious head injuries."

The FTPD Traffic Safety Bureau shut down the roadway during the investigation.
