FRANKLIN TOWNSHIP, NJ - A Friday night house fire on Burnham Street left two residents displaced, according to police. 

Police were called late last night to a home on Burnham Street, and upon their arrival observed heavy smoke coming from the second floor of the building, according to police. 

The residents of the home were able to escape unharmed as the officers arrived, police say.

Firefighters from multiple local departments put out the blaze, and the house was deemed uninhabitable by authorities. The residents were taken to a local area hotel to stay overnight, according to police.

The Franklin Township Office of Fire Prevention investigated the scene. 

"The initial investigation revealed that the fire started in an upstairs room and does not appear to be suspicious in nature," Franklin Township Police Department, Lt. Phil Rizzo said in a statement.
