SOMERSET, NJ - Pillar Missions and Pillar of Fire International will host the 5th annual Z Mud Run August 19, at 591 Weston Canal Road in Somerset.
"The Z Mud Run is a family-friendly, insanely-muddy, totally fun event for all ages," run organizer, Margaret Collier said. "Right here in Somerset county, this 5K race through mud, stream, and obstacles will challenge everyone. Last year, over 1000 people came as a family, a team or an individual to climb over hay pyramids, scale walls, climb 20 feet mud hills, slide down a mud-water slide, and plow through mud that no sane person would attempt in any other place than this."
Volunteers are needed for key roles for this event, such as Course Marshalls, whose responsibility is to oversee safety and instruction on the course. Water Stop Attendants are also needed, and they would be responsible for ensuring water stations are stocked.
All runners will get a t-shirt, custom medal, and goodie bag if they pre-register.
According to the Z Mud Run website, the run started with the purpose of funding the building of a permanent residence for and orphanage of 22 kids in Haiti. Now it has grown to reach more children in need.
"All net proceeds from the event go towards charitable causes from orphanages in Haiti or India to a medical clinic in rural Liberia," Collier said.
