EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ - A local teen faces several serious charges including weapons offenses after being pulled over in East Brunswick.

Police say, on July 2  at 10:56 pm, Patrolman Matthew Kole stopped a vehicle for multiple motor vehicle violations in the area of Route 18 and Tices Lane. 

Upon speaking with the male driver, a 17-year-old unidentified resident of Franklin who was unlicensed, Patrolman Kole detected the odor of marijuana emanating from inside the vehicle, police say.

The teen was in possession of a loaded 9mm handgun and marijuana, police say. Further investigation revealed the handgun had been reported stolen from Georgia, police say. 

The teen was arrested and charged with Unlawful Possession of a Handgun, Possession of a Weapon for Unlawful Purpose, Possession of a Firearm While Committing a Controlled Dangerous Offense, Possession of a High Capacity Magazine, Possession of Hollow Point Ammunition, Possession of Stolen Property (Handgun) and, Possession of Marijuana under 50 grams.

 The juvenile was lodged into Middlesex County Juvenile Detention Center in North Brunswick.
