SOMERSET, NJ – Central Jersey College Prep (CJCP) Charter High School’s Class of 2020 received their pomp and circumstance during an outdoor commencement ceremony held July 6 on the grounds of the school’s Somerset campus.
“Today, I stand before you as a personification of pride and happiness. I find myself on this podium experiencing numerous emotions. Perhaps most obviously, I am filled with a great sense of happiness and accomplishment,” Chief Education Officer Dr. Namik Sercan in his commencement speech. “My board, staff, faculty, parents, and students all together hand in hand have put much effort to ensure the success of all our students, including this graduating Class of 2020.”
Due to the current healthcare crisis, CJCP’s graduation ceremony, initially an indoor event scheduled for June 23, was postponed rather than canceled. Following safety regulations and restrictions, last Monday's outdoor commencement, held in the school's parking lot, provided all 46 students the opportunity to graduate together and be recognized for their academic accomplishments.
In addition to remarks by Dr. Sercan, Hannah Margolin, Class of 2020 advisor, served as MC and, Assemblyman Gordon M. Johnson (D-Bergen) served as commencement speaker. Ciara Dukes, class president; Sneha Santosh, valedictorian; and Nihar Kella, salutatorian also had the opportunity to address their class.”
Members of CJCP’s Class of 2020 have garnered admittance, as well as scholarships to a variety of prestigious colleges and universities this fall, including but not limited to Princeton, Georgetown, Northeastern, Rutgers, and more this coming fall.
“We congratulate each and every one of our students who have completed all high school requirements and are heading to prestigious colleges and universities,” said an event coordinator for the school. “We wish them all the best for their future endeavors.”
