Somerville, N.J. – Somerset County Prosecutor Michael H. Robertson, Chief of County Detectives John W. Fodor, and Hillsborough Township Chief of Police Darren Powell announced the arrest of Danielle Belford, age 20, of South Branch Road, Branchburg Township, New Jersey.
Prosecutor Robertson stated that on May 11, 2017, the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office received information that Danielle Belford was engaging in prostitution as well as negotiating arrangements to utilize the victim, a female, age 16, in prostitution.
As a result of an investigation conducted by detectives from the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Sex Crimes/Child Abuse Unit, the Major Crimes Unit, and the Hillsborough Police Department, it was determined that defendant Belford was advertising prostitution services for herself and the victim.
On Friday, May 12, 2017, a Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office undercover detective contacted Belford through her online advertisement and made arrangements to meet with her. During this meeting, defendant Belford negotiated with the undercover detective for a sexual act involving herself and the 16 year old victim. At this time, defendant Belford was placed under arrest by detectives from the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office and the Hillsborough Police Department.
Defendant Belford was charged with 3rd degree, endangering the welfare of a child, and 4th degree promoting prostitution by procuring a prostitute for a patron.
Defendant Belford was released on her own recognizance. The 16 year old victim was turned over to the care of the New Jersey Division of Child Protection and Permanency.
Detectives are continuing the investigation.
