The fund was created to commemorate the memory of Khigh Rondel Stephens, who was a passenger in a fatal automobile accident on January 4, 1998.

Khigh was an active member of the Ebenezer Baptist Church and an honors graduate of the New Brunswick High School class 1997. At the time of his death he was an eminent student at Clark Atlanta University.

To keep his legacy alive the fund awards scholarships to students of exemplary character who can show financial need and/or academic ability. In addition, activities in the church and community service are also considered for funding.

Since 2002 the foundation has given out scholarships to 55 deserving college bound students totaling over $43.000.00.
