NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ - A man was robbed at gunpoint on Somerset Street on Monday, according to a press release issued by Rutgers Police.
The robbery occurred at approximately 9:55 p.m. on Somerset Street between Harvey and Prospect streets. New Brunswick Police are investing, according to Rutgers Police.
The victim, who is affiliated with Rutgers University, reported that he was approached "by a man who demanded items of value while displaying a firearm." The victim was not injured and the man with the gun fled toward Harvey Street.

The suspect is described as a black male in his mid-20s to early 30s in age, about 5-feet 6-inches to 5-feet 8-inches in height with an average build and wearing dark clothing and a purple bandana-type head covering.
The New Brunswick Police Department asks that anyone with information, or who may have been in the area at the time, contact the Detective Bureau at 732-745-5217.
Rutgers police said residents can reduce their chances of being a crime victim by "taking reasonable precautions" such as immediately reporting suspicious activity to local law enforcement, remaining alert and aware of the people and circumstances around, avoiding isolated or dark areas and walking in groups when traveling during late-night hours.
