Muslim and Jewish Women to Lead Unity Vigil Affirming Shared Humanity and Solidarity, Women Call for Prayer and Meditations of Courage to Resist Unjust Policies
Local Gathering One of Dozens of Vigils to Be Held Around the Country on Thursday, February 16th at 8 PM EST Representing Over 40 Nationwide Chapters
WHEN: Thursday, February 16, 2017, 8:00- 9:30 PM
WHERE Highland Park Middle School, 330 Wayne Street, Highland Park, NJ 08904
WHAT: Women will lead a unity vigil to raise voices in prayer and song in gatherings led by Muslim and Jewish women of the Sisterhood of Salaam Shalom. Vigils will create a welcoming space for those in our family and community feeling alone and scared. Invoking faith traditions as it has always done – with respect and love for each other - the Sisterhood of Salaam Shalom invites family members, friends and community members to pray that neighbors, community leaders and elected officials find the courage to protect the values that unite us.
WHY: These are difficult times. Attempts to institutionalize a travel ban against Muslims using the force of government conjures memories and our darkest fears. This evening of action is at a critical time in our nation’s history - we must draw strength for each other and resist those who seek to divide us by party, demonize our beliefs, silence our memory, and paralyze us with fear.
WHO: Imams and Rabbis from local mosques and synagogues and mayors from Somerset, East Brunswick and Highland Park
