SUGAR LAND, Texas – Despite nearly three hours worth of rain delays Tuesday night, the Somerset Patriots (21-13) defeated the Sugar Land Skeeters (18-17) 5-3 to earn a three-game sweep at Constellation Field.

The Patriots took a 1-0 lead in the first on an Olmo Rosario RBI infield single. After the play, the game entered a 2:15 rain delay before resuming. Once back, Somerset doubled its lead to 2-0 in the second on a run-scoring drop-third strike.

Chris Grayson later came through with a two-run single in the third to increase the lead to 4-0 before another run came home in the fourth on a Rosario fielder’s choice.

Sugar Land responded with an Andy Wilkins (8) two-run home run in the fourth and a Wilkins RBI double in the sixth, but their comeback effort ended there.

The game also featured an additional 38-minute rain delay.

Jerome Williams (2-1) earned the complete-game win, yielding three runs on six hits over seven innings of work. Michael Nix (2-5) suffered loss after he allowed one run on two hits in two-thirds of an inning.

Somerset has the next two days off before they welcome in the Bridgeport Bluefish for a four-game series this weekend at TD Bank Ballpark. First pitch on Friday night is set for 7:05 p.m.
