The concert is part of an introduction to the new vision (“Windmills of Change”) for Pillar College, which has the goal of preparing students for future job success.

“We are thankful for our many supporters. The concert is a great way to give and enjoy phenomenal music while preparing for the holidays”, said Erica M. Oliver, Vice President of Institutional Outreach & Marketing.

Musical performances include The Rawls Family Singers, Samantha Ares, The Rawls Family Next Gen, Devoted and more. These renowned artists donated their talents and time to benefit the college. The Rawls Family Singers are a premier Newark family of ministers, composers, and musicians. This group has performed and recorded with a host of musical legends such as Shirley Caesar, Rev. Timothy Wright, Mariah Carey, and Paul Simon.

“While Pillar College seeks to keep its tuition low and offers generous financial aid, every year some students have to withdraw because of lack of finances,” expressed Dr. David Schroeder, President of Pillar College. “One initiative called Pillar Cares has assisted many to remain in college and go on to graduate and fulfill their professional dreams. Many of our students are first-generation collegians.  Funds given at the concert will be music to their ears as they see how the friends of the college want to help them.”

Many colleges and universities are seeing a 20%-30% reduction in enrollment. Despite the pandemic, Pillar College is seeing enrollment growth. The College works hard to help students find financial means to pay for college. The class sizes are small which allow professors to interact closely with students and the cohort model allows groups of students to progress through their educational experience together.

In addition to undergraduate and graduate degree programs, Pillar College has several programs that help the urban population and non-traditional students. The BLEND (Bilingual Entry Degree) program is for Spanish-speaking students who want to earn an Associate’s Degree and the LEAD (Life Enhancing Accelerated Degree) program is geared towards students who had to stop college, however, now want to complete their degree. “Pillar College sees itself as a practical Christian college. We are designing new career-friendly majors so that graduates will be able to get jobs right out of college,” said Dr. Schroder.
