SOMERSET, NJ - The Franklin Township Police department will be stepping up its presence in targeted neighborhoods to help prevent crimes before they happen. If you are seen as a potential victim, you will be warned.

"Recently we have seen a spike in burglaries to unlocked vehicles throughout the Township," FTPD Lt. Phil Rizzo said in a news release. "During the overnight hours, officers from the Franklin Township Police Department will be walking through targeted neighborhoods throughout the Township looking for potential issues."

Police say valuables left in plain sight in an unlocked car is one of the biggest issues residents face in the township.

"If officers see an issue, they will leave a safety flier on your windshield," Rizzo added. "This will serve as a friendly reminder to the residents and visitors that they need to be more careful when they leave their vehicles unattended."

Suspicious activity should be reported to police immediately and valuables should be removed from vehicles when possible.
