Police Searching for Suspect in Commercial Avenue Shooting

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ — A 19-year-old city man was shot in both of his legs early this morning at a Commercial Avenue apartment complex, according to police.

The victim, whose name wasn’t released, was with friends outside Building 1 of the New Brunswick Apartments, 33 Commercial Ave., shortly before the incident, according to a press release. A suspect then approached the group around 12:10 a.m. June 19 and began firing, cops said.

City police are searching for the suspect. He’s believed to be an African American man who’s thin and roughly 5 feet and 10 inches to 6 feet tall. He wore a white bandana around his neck and a black hooded sweatshirt last night, according to police.

The suspect wasn’t alone, cops said. He was accompanied by another African American man and a Hispanic man with curly hair and a gray T-shirt, according to police.

Emergency responders brought the victim to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital. He’s being treated for non-life-threatening injuries, police said.
