SOMERSET, NJ - Police arrested a local man after finding him in possession of 9mm Ruger P95 loaded with 10 rounds in the magazine and one round in the chamber, according to Somerset County Prosecutor Michael H. Robertson.

The loaded gun was found in possession of Donte Dowdell, 25, of Somerset on Jan. 8 at approximately 7:30 pm. 

"Members of the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Organized Crime and Narcotics Task Force along with Franklin Township Police detectives were conducting a quality of life investigation in the area of Millstone Road in the Somerset section of Franklin Township, N.J," Robertson stated. "As a result of this investigation Task Force detectives conducted a motor vehicle stop in the area of Spruce Street."

During the stop, police searched Dowdell seated in the back seat passenger side of the stopped vehicle and found the loaded gun in the pocket of his jacket, according to police. Dowdell was arrested without incident, according to police. 

Robertson says, Dowdell was charged with 2nd-degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon and 2nd -degree Certain Persons not to Possess Weapons. 

Dowdell was lodged in the Somerset County Jail pending a bail detention hearing.
