NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ — For 26 years, Saint Peter’s Healthcare System has celebrated Martin Luther King Jr., his role in the civil rights movement and impact on the U.S.

This year will be no different in New Brunswick.

Saint Peter’s is hosting an interfaith event honoring the reverend and civil rights leader at 1 p.m. Monday, Jan. 16 in the Sister Marie De Pazzi Conference Center, on the ground floor of the hospital, 254 Easton Ave., according to a press release. The program is titled “The Beloved Community.”

The celebration falls on the national holiday dedicated to King.

Pastor Joseph J. Kerrigan of Holy Family Parish is slated to be the keynote speaker. Les Hirsch, president of Saint Peter’s, will deliver the opening address, according to the release.

The hospital expects more than 150 employees to attend the celebration.

Saint Peter’s University Hospital has been a staple in New Brunswick for years. The Roman Catholic Diocese of Metuchen sponsors the teaching hospital.
