Say NO To NESE --- PIPELINE and COMPRESSOR STATION
We have been fighting to stop the Williams-Transco Northeast Supply Enhancement (NESE) Project for over 3 years now. Williams-Transco wants to build a gas-powered gas Compressor Station—the most polluting type—in Franklin near South Brunswick & Princeton. At the other end of this project Williams-Transco wants to build a Pipeline Expansion underneath the Raritan Bay and lower New York Harbor. This proposed 23-mile construction project will dredge up industrial toxins that have been buried under the seabed for decades.
New Jersey does not want NESE, and New York does not need NESE
NJDEP should reject Williams/Transco’s third set of NESE applications for water permits. WHY?
· The applications for water permits do not meet state standards.
· The NESE Project fails to preserve, protect and enhance our natural resources.
· The NESE Project would harm public health, safety and the general welfare.
· NESE would not provide benefit to NJ or the municipalities, and there is no proof that NY needs more gas.
YOUR COMMENTS TO NJDEP & GOVERNOR MURPHY ARE STILL NEEDED
Keep telling NJDEP and your elected representatives that you want the DEP to deny the permit applications for NESE. See Scrap-NESE/.org for reasons you can use for comments.
NJDEP is required to apply regulations from their Freshwater Wetlands Protection Act Rules, Flood Hazard Area Rules, Stormwater Management Rules, Coastal Zone Wetland Rules and any other applicable regulations in deciding whether or not the applications for NESE meet NJ standards. For the Coastal Wetlands & Waterfront Development permits, NJDEP needs to make a decision by Friday, October 25. For the Flood Hazard Area permit, a decision is due by Tuesday, October 29.
