FRANKLIN TOWNSHIP, NJ- Somerset County Freeholder Patricia L. Walsh invites residents to come out for the “Shades of Pink” event held in conjunction with the 15th Annual Breast Cancer Awareness Month Thursday, Oct.18, at 12:30 p.m., in the Franklin Township Community/Senior Center at 505 Demott Lane.
“The goal of Breast Cancer Awareness Month is to stress the importance of early detection through screenings, and to inform the public about the many resources and services available to residents of Somerset County,” Walsh said.
Speakers will be presenting, and educational literature, well-woman exams and light refreshments will be available at the event. Residents who attend the event can show their support for breast cancer survivors and their families by wearing pink clothing, pink accessories or a pink ribbon – the international symbol for breast cancer awareness.
In recognition of October as National Breast Cancer Awareness Month Walsh will present a proclamation. Zufall Health’s Chief Operating Officer Fran Palm will officiate the ceremony, and representatives from Franklin Township will be part of the day’s events.
In addition to the public ceremony, Zufall Health will have its Highlands Health Medical Mobile Unit on-site from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. for residents who are interested in well-woman exams that include clinical breast exams and referrals for mammograms. Individuals wishing to receive medical services on the Highlands Health Van must pre-register by calling Zufall Health at (908) 526-2335, ext. 283.
