Somerset County: Nanny Charged with Abuse of Nine-Month-Old

SOMERVILLE, NJ – A 38-year-old Paterson woman has been charged with abusing a nine-month-old infant from Bernards Township, according to Somerset County Prosecutor Michael H. Robertson.

Laura M. Gonzalez of East 22nd Street, Paterson, has been charged with second degree endangering the welfare of a child, and fourth degree child abuse.

The Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office received a call from Morristown Medical Center on Thanksgiving, Nov. 23 that the infant had been brought to the emergency room suffering with a fractured right femur, a distal tibia, and a fractured left ankle.

An investigation conducted by detectives with the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Sex Crimes/Child Abuse Unit revealed that the injuries occurred to the infant while under the care of Gonzalez, who was employed as the child’s nanny. 

Gonzalez is lodged in the Somerset County Jail pending a detention hearing.
