SOMERVILLE, NJ – An upscale apartment community will officially be introduced next year on South Bridge Street, adjacent to the NJ Transit Train Station and an easy walk to the borough's award-winning downtown district, recently named one of the state’s “Great Places” by the New Jersey Chapter of the American Planning Association.

Livingston, N.J.-based Sterling Properties has received approval to develop the four-story building with 69 luxury apartments at 110 South Bridge Street, the former site of the Richards Fuel Oil company which was demolished in March to make way for the building, to be known as SOMA, an acronym for the building’s location - South of Main Street.

The project will consist of studio, one- and two-bedroom homes. Initial site work on the property is expected to begin this spring.

“There are many factors we consider when choosing new development opportunities, topped by demand, location and a high level of commutability,” said Nick Hollenbeck, director of Sales and Marketing for Sterling Properties.  “SOMA has all these attributes and an energetic downtown with great restaurants and retail.”

Designed by architecture firm Comito Associates, SOMA will reflect the architecture of downtown Somerville.  Homes will range from 585 to 1,290 square feet of space and feature nine-foot ceilings, washer/dryer in every unit, stainless steel appliances and designer finishes.  The building will also offer a state-of-the-art fitness studio and tech lounge.  Interior Design firm Mary Cook and Associates has been hired to design the project’s unit interiors and common space.

SOMA is part of an aggressive development strategy implemented by Sterling Properties, which has nearly 1,000 homes under construction or planned for 2018 across a wide variety of markets and product types.

“Much of our focus has been on transit-oriented communities in livable and walkable locations,” said Jeffrey Garfinkel, director of Acquisitions for Sterling.  “SOMA, for example, is just down the block from Somerville Station which provides easy access into Newark Penn Station and New York City.”

Sterling Properties is a multi-faceted development organization with a wide range of upscale real estate including residential, office and commercial communities throughout New Jersey, Pennsylvania, New York and Connecticut. For additional information visit http://www.sterlingpropertiesnj.com/ or call (973) 535-1888.
