SOMERVILLE, NJ - The Somerset County SWAT and Hostage/Crisis Negotiator teams responded to a Franklin Township hotel Saturday to take Ian Bockus, age 26, of Somerville into custody after he barricaded himself in his room, according to officials.               

"On Aug. 18, at approximately 8:28 p.m., Franklin Township dispatchers received a 9-1-1 call from a barricaded suicidal male who was staying at a local hotel," Somerset County Prosecutor Michael H. Robertson said in a statement. "Responding Officers began to communicate with the caller who indicated that he was armed with a knife and gun and was not going to exit the room.

According to police, numerous attempts were made to get Bockus to surrender, but eventually, response teams had to force entry and take him into custody.

"Bockus was found to be heavily intoxicated and unresponsive with several self-inflicted knife wounds on his left wrist," Robertson said in a statement. "He was transported to a nearby hospital for medical treatment and evaluation. While being treated, it was ascertained that Bockus had an outstanding warrant out of Somerville Borough Municipal Court."
