SOMERSET, NJ - A third resident has tested positive for COVID-19, according to a news release. 

"The Somerset County Health Department is currently conducting an investigation to determine how the 72-year-old resident contracted the virus," Franklin Township Police Department Lt. Phil Rizzo said in a news release.   

Yesterday a second man from Franklin has tested positive for COVID-19 and is now recuperating at his home, according to officials.

On Sunday the township announced a 70-year-old man who recently traveled to Italy had tested positive for COVID-19.

Last week the Franklin Township Council advanced an ordinance on first reading that outlines quarantine and isolation procedures in the township. However, next week's meeting has been canceledTAP here to read the ordinance.

The best way to protect yourself and your family from this coronavirus and other diseases is to follow simple daily health precautions:

Wash hands frequently with soap and water, and for at least 20 seconds each time.  Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands.

  • Avoid close contact with people who are ill.
  • Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when you cough or sneeze.
  • Do not reuse tissue after coughing, sneezing, or blowing your nose.
  • Clean and disinfect surfaces that are frequently touched.
  • Stay home when you are sick.
