FLEMINGTON, N.J. (May 31, 2018) – Women Grow – Flemington, the New Jersey branch of the national cannabis networking organization, will host U.S. Army veteran and cannabis activist Leo Bridgewater, etiquette expert Jennifer Tyler-Washington, and environmental law attorney Elizabeth Bogle at its next meeting, held June 7 at Lone Eagle Brewery, Flemington.

Bridgewater’s talk will cover New Jersey’s expanding medical marijuana program, and racial and social justice issues pertaining to the quickly-evolving legal cannabis industry.

“Cannabis has the power to transform New Jersey and help thousands heal from chronic pain, post-traumatic stress disorder, and many other health issues which impact our communities,” Bridgewater said. “The continuing expansion of the medical marijuana program, and the ongoing discussions regarding adult-use cannabis, make this an extremely exciting time for patients and entrepreneurs alike in the Garden State.”

Bridgewater serves in leadership positions with the New Jersey Cannabis Commission, Minorities for Medical Marijuana, and the New Jersey CannaBusiness Association. A military veteran who served three tours of duty with the U.S. Army, Bridgewater registered for New Jersey’s medical marijuana program to manage pain stemming from injuries sustained during paratrooper training and subsequent surgery, bypassing the use of opiates for pain management. Soon after, he discovered medical marijuana and CBD, a non-psychoactive compound found in the plant, addressed symptoms of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Bridgewater was a key force behind PTSD’s addition to New Jersey’s list of qualifying conditions in 2016.

“Leo is an inspiring figure in the New Jersey cannabis community and for veterans everywhere,” said Stacey Yalenti, CPA, Women Grow – Flemington market leader and owner of Crabapple Cove Accounting Group, an event sponsor. “His fearless activism is the reason why thousands of veterans can use medical cannabis to alleviate the symptoms of PTSD.”

Attendees of the Women Grow event will also receive etiquette advice from expert Jennifer Tyler-Washington of I Am Polished.

“Cannabis still faces tremendous stigma in the public eye, so it’s important for those involved in the industry to be responsible ambassadors of the plant,” Yalenti said. “We look forward to learning from Jennifer and putting her advice into action.”

Bogle, an environmental law attorney with Cole Schotz, P.C., Hackensack, N.J. spent the earlier part of her career as a scientist. She is  knowledgeable about the cannabis and hemp industries and able to shine the light on environmental considerations.  “Cannabis is high energy and nutrient intensive. Everyone is talking about the business opportunities and overlooking the environmental considerations.  Other states that allowed large scale grow facilities didn’t realize until 2 years in the impact on the grid and on energy costs. Looking to those lessons learned, New Jersey has the potential to get in front of the issue.”

“Cole Schotz is delighted to support, and be a part of, the Women Grow community,” said Tammy A. Mangan, Chief Marketing Officer, Cole Schotz P.C., a co-sponsor of the event. “It is not often that a completely new industry emerges, but it looks like that may well be the case for cannabis in New Jersey.”

The Women Grow – Flemington event will be held June 7, 2018, at Lone Eagle Brewing, 44 Stangl Road, Flemington. Refreshments will be served. Tickets are $25. For more information and to register, visit www.WomenGrow.com.
