Our History

In the Chinese language, "Ying" means English, and "Hua" means Chinese. Together, "YingHua" means blossom, the most magnificent state of a plant, which captures the essence of a Chinese-English dual language school like YingHua International School.

On May 4, 2007, five years after founding the weekend-based YingHua Language School, Dr. Bonnie Liao founded YingHua Day School (YHDS) to provide a full-time Chinese immersion education to a diverse student population starting from age 3 through elementary grades in Lawrenceville, New Jersey.

In spring 2009, YHDS changed its name to YingHua International School (YHIS) to reflect more accurately the international nature of the curriculum, and moved to Princeton, New Jersey.

Since 2015, YHIS has been accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools, Commissions on Elementary and Secondary Schools (MSA-CESS).

As of September 2015, YHIS is a candidate school with the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme.

In August 2016, YHIS moved into a new, spacious facility, formerly a public elementary school, in the historical town of Kingston, New Jersey.
